""Inertial." a collection of songs that could only be described with a self titled release. while I consider "cloud beings" to be a more "positive" record (despite writing during the pandemic, trying to find some sense of self), "inertial" is way more darker tonally. sort of abandoning the prog of "cloud beings" and having a bit more of an alternative/"heavier" sense. "troika" was the first song I wrote for this record, setting the tone for what would come. in having synesthesia, each of these songs had a correlated color in the demo stages of this album. "troika" being called "blue", "silhouettes" was "lavender", "perseids" was "black", "memory" was "crimson", and "liminal" was "viridian." the cover was taken in an airplane passing over chicago during a vacation I took with my family."

I first heard Pillars when I attended Post. Fest 2018 to hear Heron play (I have 2 talented nephews who are members of that band). I thought the guys in Pillars sounded tight and awesome. This album, CAVUM, just proves even more so that I was correct! My favorites on the album are Dissolution and Black Prayer, but plenty of excellent sounds here! Kenneth Blick
